Moodle Design
Recently we created a new Moodle design for the Weitzman Institute. Moodle is an open source Learning Management System (LMS) for online education.
The goal was to create a Moodle website that became part of the Weitzman design family. This was my first Moodle design. Moodle has a lot of similarities with WordPress. It’s open source, has a library of themes and works on the Bootstrap framework.
Taking on the challenge Moodle was a great opportunity to expand my toolbox. The Moodle learning system is pretty dynamic and brings many resources to an online classroom. I look forward to getting deeper into the moodle environment.
The library of themes for Moodle is limited, but my approach has always been to create a design and then design the framework around it. In this case we adapted the Essential Theme creating a child theme and using mostly custom CSS to apply the new design. The Essential theme has a lot of customization opportunities in it’s dashboard and we took advantage of these features.
Having many years of design experience in educational text books it is interesting to see how online learning tools are developing and maturing. Looking forward to more Moodle Challenges.
